Reflecting on 2024: Trends, Transitions and What’s Ahead

November 21, 2024 by Anna Norriss

As the year draws to a close, it always seems like a natural time to pause and reflect. For me, 2024 has been packed with plenty of professional and personal adventures, as well as its fair share of challenges.

But what’s next? Let’s dive into the trends I see shaping 2025 and how they could transform the way we connect with our audiences.

On a personal note…

This year started with a big decision: leaving Singapore. My husband (he’s a teacher) took an exciting new role, which also meant a great school opportunity for our kids. The move brought us back to Vietnam—somewhat of a homecoming for me, as I lived in Saigon from 2008 to 2018 and my mum and brother live there too. It was familiar territory, but relocating is never without its stress.

Thankfully, the move went smoothly, and we’re getting settled. Relocating a business, however, was a new challenge for me. With the incredible support of Katherine Chapman and her team at CSLB Asia, I was able to navigate the logistics of keeping my company based in Singapore while I got settled in Vietnam.

I designed my business to be virtual from the start, so location hasn’t been a barrier. My clients are global, and the work keeps flowing. Since leaving in June, I’ve already been back to Singapore twice to deliver workshops and connect with clients. This flexibility has been a reminder of how important it is to build systems that work wherever you are.

I also managed a business overhaul, including a complete website rewrite and redesign, while I was in the middle of relocating countries… arguably not the smartest timing! But it all came together, and my fabulous new website is now getting more traffic than ever. Take a look and tell me your thoughts.

The AI explosion of 2024

If I had to pick the hottest topic of the year, it’s got to be AI. It’s gone from niche to mainstream in what feels like the blink of an eye. Whether you love it or hate it, it’s not going anywhere.

Will it replace my job? Probably not anytime soon. But I do encourage my clients to get familiar with using AI tools. It’s part of the future and the businesses that embrace it strategically will thrive.

That said, the rise of AI has also revealed a major pitfall: everyone is starting to sound the same. It’s like businesses have been handed the same script—formal, generic and devoid of personality.

💡 My top tip? Feed your AI tool as much context as possible about your brand voice. If it doesn’t sound like you wrote it, it’s not ready to go out. Keep your personality front and centre.

Looking ahead to 2025: Trends to watch

Here are a few trends I see gaining momentum as we head into the new year:

1. Micro support
Small, intimate communities are on the rise. These groups offer niche, personalised value that larger, more general networks often can’t match. It’s about depth over breadth.

I’ve been part of a fantastic group of women for over two years now, alongside Elizabeth Taylor and Anna Seefeldt. Our small but mighty business gang actually inspired the creation of our Ignite With Impact five-month program, which is all about offering tailored, close-knit guidance and marketing support. We realised that entrepreneurs, especially in Singapore, were missing the kind of connection that comes from being part of a small, close-knit and truly supportive community. With 10 amazing alumni already and a new cohort kicking off in January, we’re excited to see how this group will continue to grow and thrive in 2025. You can find more details here.

2. Intentional content to combat fatigue
AI has made it easier than ever to churn out content. But let’s be honest—a lot of it feels meh. Businesses are flooding their channels with low-value, AI-generated content that adds to the noise without offering much substance.

At the same time, many business owners are stuck on a content treadmill, creating for the sake of creating and wondering if it’s really landing.

In 2025, I see a shift toward more intentional content creation. It’s about stepping back, getting clear on your core messages and focusing on depth over quantity. When you take the time to craft high-quality content that provides real value to your niche, you’ll connect with your audience in a more meaningful way—and save yourself from content burnout in the process.

3. Segmentation is king
Not everyone in your audience wants the same thing, and they shouldn’t all receive the same content. The brands that take the time to understand their audience—and use tools like email segmentation to deliver tailored content—will stand out more.

At the end of the day, it all comes back to knowing your audience inside and out. When you’re crystal clear on who you’re talking to, your content is more likely to land—and make an impact.

If 2025 is the year you want to get more out of your email marketing—like really understanding segmentation and creating strategies that connect with your audience more—I offer 1:1 services to help move things forward. Whether it’s a Strategy Spotlight session or mapping everything out with Funnel Flow, these tailored options can help you make real progress with clarity and purpose. More about these services here.

Final thoughts

2024 has been a whirlwind year, both personally and professionally. As I wrap up this chapter and look ahead to the next, I’m feeling optimistic. Trends will come and go but what remains constant is the need to stay connected—to your audience, your purpose and your own unique voice.

Here’s to 2025 and all the opportunities it brings!
